Which college degrees will give you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? Some students select a major because it offers practical training that will be valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major simply because they enjoy the subject material. By sampling courses from different departments, you can get a better idea which field you are most comfortable in. The most popular college major is business administration, split evenly between men and women. On the other hand, men make up the vast majority of computer science and engineering majors. For women, the fields of education, English and liberal arts dominate the list.

To prepare for graduate school, students can enhance their regular schedule by adding online classes. Distance education enables students who otherwise wouldn't be able to make the commute to campus to access accredited courses. If you so choose, online education gives you the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript. Alternatively, you may be able to complete online credits for a grade. Advanced Placement exams (AP Exams) are offered in a variety of subjects, offering college credit for classes that you have taken. Test yourself with free practice exams, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be granted advanced placement in college.

Online Courses - MOOCs

Lynchburg College student financial servicesThere are almost 7,000 accredited colleges and universities in the United States, which enroll 15 million students, and award 2 million bachelors degrees every year. If you remain true to your career interests, not just going after salary, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. However, if your focus is more on salary alone, there's a higher risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers later on.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year college, and still you may earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. By taking some of your required degree courses online, you may be able to graduate earlier, thus saving money on tuition. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your spare time to advance your career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing cloud-based software, interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree that was earned on campus. Udemy online learning is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Similarly, Khan Academy now offers over 4,000 micro-lectures served through YouTube. Coursera, a competing software platform, has millions of enrolled students from around the world. Technical Degree Programs

Those students who graduate with technical degrees, especially majoring in computer programming, business administration, and health care may find more job openings. An associates degree is a two-year program that either results in an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree. Further, varied careers are available to people who hold associates degrees. The single greatest downside to an associates degrees in the job market is that you will be competing with individuals holding bachelor's degrees. Therefore, make sure you're highly skilled in the niche you've chosen.

Although most jobs which pay six-figure salaries require a college degree, technical fields base remuneration more on demonstrated abilities and specific skill-sets. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, but an applicant's past experience must be relevant to the particular job vacancy that the company needs to fill. Your resume must show a clear pattern of numeric success over time. Companies frequently publish rankings, offer various awards and incentives, and conduct monthly reviews of employee performance.

The main challenge in getting your degree is to choose a career that you will be able to pursue for many years. The job vacancies for website designers are still increasing, as retail firms move a greater percentage of their business online. Also, as the healthcare industry relies heavily on electronic medical records in order to protect patients' personal data.

There is indeed a shortage of nurses, but the education required is very demanding. Community colleges offer an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, and some diploma programs also award certificates in practical nursing. Nurse training is a function of your ability to learn, and whether you choose to attend nursing school full-time or part-time. University nursing degrees, such as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, reward graduates with advanced education, practical training, and competitive starting salaries.

Business & Medical Job Listings

Although most jobs which pay six-figure salaries require a college degree, technical fields offer high salaries based more on ability than which school you graduated from. Students will impress future bosses more with an impressive portfolio than with an advanced degree, so practice your skills as a consultant for local companies. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, so you resume must show a clear pattern of success over time, based on numeric results and personal achievements.

After completing your nursing education, you must be licensed by the state in which you'll be practicing, given that state boards of nursing each have specific certification requirements.
